The purpose of 12 Days of Wellness is to help change the narrative of overall wellness in the Black community and to reduce the disparities and barriers that prevents individuals from achieving total well-being. This is a stigma-free PDF guide and the vision behind it is to encourage individuals to be proactive in their health. It also provides an overview of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness which are Spiritual, Physical, Emotional, Career, Intellectual, Environmental, Financial, & Social. During what’s supposed to be “the most wonderful time of the year”, many of us have lost loved ones due to the Covid-19 & other critical health conditions.

 

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Heart Disease is ranked #1 as the deadliest illness in the United States. Other diseases such as Cancer, COPD, Hypertension, Cerebrovascular aka Strokes, and Alzheimers or Dementia trail behind in numbers. An alarming statistic indicates that African Americans face major health disparities due to economic and social conditions more than our counterparts. One example being African Americans more likely to report they can’t see a doctor because of cost. This is important because many diseases and symptoms can go undetected which may result in earlier deaths and higher death rates in younger African Americans.

 

Although all Americans should have equal opportunities to pursue a healthy lifestyle, many of which do not.
